Greater Noida: A delegation led by Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. Following the receipt of the aerodrome license, the officials apprised the Chief Minister of the progress of the airport project and its upcoming phases.
The delegation stated that a total of 48 check-in counters, 9 security check lanes, and 9 immigration counters have been established at the airport. Additionally, 10 aerobridges have been prepared for the convenience of passengers. A capacity to handle approximately 30 flights per hour has been developed on the runway.
An Airport Equipped with Modern Amenities
The CEO of YAPL stated that the terminal building covers an area of approximately 135,000 square meters. Lounges for both domestic and international passengers are being developed within the facility. The airport complex is being equipped with 28 aircraft parking stands and a state-of-the-art logistics hub. To ensure a fast and seamless travel experience for passengers, features such as self-baggage drop, digital passenger processing, and biometric systems are being implemented.
From an environmental and energy perspective, this airport is state-of-the-art. Solar energy systems, rainwater harvesting facilities, and electric vehicle charging stations are being developed within the complex. In the first phase, one runway and one terminal building have been completed, with a capacity to handle approximately 12 million passengers annually. In the second phase, this capacity will be expanded to 30 million passengers, and in the third and fourth phases, it will be further increased to 70 million passengers.
The First Airport to be Connected by High-Speed Train
Noida Airport is set to be integrated into the Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Train Corridor. As part of this initiative, an underground station will be constructed at the airport. For this project, a team from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) held a meeting with officials from the Yamuna Authority to discuss the construction of the station in the vicinity of the airport, as well as the alignment and infrastructure requirements.
According to preliminary surveys, the 70-kilometer journey from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Noida Airport will be completed in just 21 minutes. The station will be connected via an elevated track situated on the expressway’s median divider and will proceed further along the Yamuna Expressway up to the GTC. Upon the completion of this project, Noida Airport will become the first international airport to be directly connected by a high-speed train.
Preparations for Inauguration and Operations
The airport’s Aerodrome Security Programme is currently under review by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Once this approval is received, the airport management will coordinate with all relevant agencies to finalize the date for the inauguration and the commencement of commercial operations. CM Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure that the project progresses according to the stipulated timeline and that modern, secure services are made available to passengers.
