Preparations are underway to construct an elevated road in Greater Noida’s Tilapta area to resolve the persistent traffic congestion issues. The Greater Noida Authority will commission the Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam to prepare the feasibility report (viability study) for this project. A survey will be initiated once the proposal regarding this project receives approval from higher-ranking officials.
According to Authority officials, the elevated road will commence from the Surajpur side—approximately 500 meters before the Tilapta roundabout, situated on the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSAC) route—and will connect near the Dadri Railway Overbridge. This will facilitate smoother commuting for residents of Dadri town, those utilizing GT Road-91, and people living in the surrounding villages. The proposed elevated road will span approximately five kilometers in length and will be constructed with a minimum of six lanes.
Widening the Road in Tilapta: A Challenging Task
Widening the road in Tilapta has proven to be a challenging task for the Authority. Despite tenders being issued over a year ago, work on the drainage system and the road itself has yet to commence. The primary reason for this delay is the extensive unauthorized construction lining the main road in Tilapta. The Authority is also facing opposition from local villagers; recently, Authority employees who arrived to begin work were attacked by a group of individuals.
Why This Project is Essential
With flight operations expected to begin at the Noida International Airport within the next few months—and with the impending operationalization of the flyover built over the Dedicated Freight Corridor on the 130-meter-wide road—traffic pressure is set to intensify on the 130-meter arterial road connecting Greater Noida and Greater Noida West. Under these circumstances, the Tilapta roundabout is anticipated to become a major traffic bottleneck.
Feasibility Report to be Prepared
Prabhat Shankar, Senior Manager of the Projects Department, stated that following the feasibility report, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared. Based on a preliminary survey, a report has already been compiled identifying the specific locations around Tilapta where traffic congestion is a recurring issue.
Bypass Project in Limbo
The plan for a bypass road at Tilapta on the DSC route has stalled because land acquisition is proving difficult in the villages lying in the project’s path—specifically Khodna Kalan, Sheorajpur, and Kailashpur. The proposed bypass road was intended to connect the 130-meter-wide arterial road to the Dadri Bypass, situated near Roopbas village, a short distance beyond the Tilapta roundabout.
Additional Measures to be Implemented
Vehicle movement is expected to surge once flight operations commence at the Noida Airport and the flyover constructed over the Dedicated Freight Corridor—located near Tilapta on the 130-meter-wide road—becomes operational within the next few months. Consequently, managing traffic at the Tilapta roundabout will become increasingly challenging. Given that the construction of an elevated road would take a considerable amount of time even after receiving approval, preparations are currently underway to construct U-turns on the 130-meter-wide road at this location. This measure aims to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Ravi Kumar NG, CEO, Greater Noida: “A comprehensive action plan has been formulated to prevent future traffic congestion issues in Greater Noida and Greater Noida West. Key arterial roads are currently being widened. Preparations are also underway to construct an elevated road to alleviate the traffic bottlenecks frequently occurring on the DSC route at Tilapta. Work on this proposed project will commence once the feasibility report has been finalized.”
